Thousands flocked to New Year hotspots such as Hillbrow and Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront. In Durban, tourists weren’t just eager to paint the city red, many also ventured into popular venues in the townships to celebrate.

According to KwaZulu-Natal Tourism department’s CEO, Phindile Makwakwa says township tourism has been booming this festive season.

The party goers say, “Eyadani is a tourist attraction that we see on Instagram and social media so we came here to experience what it’s all about. We thought it would be a great idea to come to Eyadini because it’s known as a place of fun great music great food. So we thought we could come here to end our year and start the New Year at Eyadini do far it’s proving to be a great idea.”
