Music concerts around SA cities to welcome 2019

People across the country are preparing to welcome in 2019 after a tough year. Major cities and towns are preparing for public parties as the clock counts down to the beginning of a brand new year.

Durban remains a favourite destination to usher in the New Year. Several music concerts are expected to draw large crowds as organisers promise star-studded line-ups, including some of the country’s top DJs.

eThekwini Tourism’s Phillip Sithole says The Last Dance Music Festival at Richards Bay is one of the main events, where the song of the year is likely to be announced.

“We are more than prepared. We would like to assure everyone who is coming to the beachfront tomorrow that we are more than prepared. not only for the beachfront but the entire city that include other tourism destination areas that are in the townships we are more than ready, in terms of events. we have a number of them that are supported by the city, others are privately run by private event organiser. we have the all-white party that will be taking place at the Virginia Airport tomorrow night until the morning of the 1st of January 2019.”

AfroPunk festival is happening at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg.

SABC News Lopang Alamu is at a New Year’s Eve Extravaganza being held at the Dries Niemandt Park in Kempton Park.

 

The V and A Waterfront in Cape Town is a hive of activity in anticipation of tonight’s New Year’s Eve celebrations. The popular tourist spot attracts thousands of revelers.

More than a 100 000 people are expected to celebrate at the Waterfront ..in anticipation of one the most spectacular firework displays being set off at mid night.

Eateries and restaurants are packed, with some having long queues outside. Live entertainment in the open air amphitheater will take people into the new year.

The spokesperson of the V&A Waterfront, Donald Kau, says they’ve spaced entertainment across the precinct to avoid congestion.
