The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the North West says the 15 African National Congress (ANC) Councillors who aligned themselves with opposition parties in removing Matlosana Mayor, Maitu Kgaile, must be expelled.

Kgaile was removed last week in a vote of no confidence that the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) had brought.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Task Team is still locked in a meeting to determine the future of the culprits. SACP Secretary Madoda Sambatha says what their members did is embarrassing for the ANC.

“In actual fact it is factionalism at its best, what is critical and more dangerous is that it’s not just factionalism, it is factionalism in the manner which Cope was formed previously, so these actions by these Councillors in Matlosana it is not an action in isolation. Of course it is a factional process in the ANC today. There are people who think there shall be no ANC without them.”
