Free State Health MEC Butana Komphela says they have activated an outbreak response team in a bid to contain the spread of listeriosis.
To date 29 cases of listeriosis have been reported in the province with four fatalities. Komphela says he’s confident that their action will yield positive results.
“I’m sure when we go up there in June you’ll see that at least every other child knows about listeriosis like HIV/Aids. I think now we must do campaigns, it must be a culture talking about listeriosis that you wash your fruit, vegetables and you wash your hands as many times as you can. If you find that there’s something you are not sure about quickly go to the facility.”
