Political Analyst Tinyiko Maluleke says the African National Congress has not been united for a long time but if Cyril Ramaphosa takes firm leadership of the party, he will be able to shape it.
This comes after the announcement on Monday evening that Ramaphosa was elected the 13th President of the party.
Ramaphosa won the race to the position at the party’s 54th National Conference at Nasrec in Johannesburg.
“He needs to show that he has urgency and illustrate that he is able to anchor the forces around him and decide how he is going to lead and whom he is going to lead,” says economic analyst Lebohang Pheko.
