PSL resumes with Chiefs vs Sundowns match

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The ABSA Premiership resumes with a match between Chippa United and Bloemfontein Celtic on Friday evening.  There will be five matches on Saturday and two on Sunday.

In a pick of the matches, Kaizer Chiefs will host Mamelodi Sundowns at the FNB stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday afternoon.

Kaizer Chiefs did not have the best start to the current league campaign under Giovianni Solinas. They lost four matches, drew six and won just four. The last straw was losing 2-1 to ten-men Golden Arrows at the beginning of December.

Solinas was then replaced by Ernst Middendorp in the Amakhosi dugout.  The German won his first match in charge, beating Superport United 1-0 in Mbombela.  That was followed by two wins in CAF Confederations Cup.

Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp says:”I think we will only concentrate on the next game, that will be on Saturday afternoon in FNB, it’s a home game and being well prepared for this game against Sundowns will help us.”  Middendorp and his troops will have a stern test against the Pitso Mosimane-led Sundowns.

In their last league encounter, Sundowns played out to a goalless stalemate against Baroka. With downs’ Aubrey Ngoma starting to work his way back to fitness for the Brazilians in that match.

Speaking on Ngoma’s performance, Pitso Mosimane says he struggled as well to get the rhythm, “it’s not an easy one, he didn’t lose any balls, and he played very well.”

The match at the FNB stadium promises to be a mouth-watering encounter.

Fans are expecting a good match on the day.

In another Saturday after match, Polokwane City will host AmaZulu, followed by a clash between Free State Stars and Bidvest Wits at six in the evening.

Supersport United will clash against Cape Town City at quarter past eight in the evening.

At the same time, Orlando Pirates will be away to Highlands Park at the Makhulong stadium in Tembisa.

On Sunday, Muhsin Ertugral will lead the struggling Maritzburg United against Golden Arrows in a KwaZulu-Natal derby.

While Baroka will be at home to Black Leopards in a Limpopo derby.
