Gauteng Premier David Makhura has announced the members of a civil society-led advisory panel to deal with corruption and promote integrity within the provincial government.

The panel members include former Auditor General, Terence Nombembe, and Executive Director of Corruption Watch David Lewis and Chairperson of the Moral Regeneration Movement, former Tshwane Mayor Father Smangaliso Mkhatshwa.

The announcement was made during the second Anti-Corruption Indaba in Boksburg in Ekurhuleni.

Gauteng is the first province in the country to establish a civil society-led advisory panel, to deal specifically with corruption within the provincial government. They will among others oversee Tender Adjudication process and follow-up on allegations of corruption from members of the public.

As an advisory panel they can only advice or make recommendations but do not have the power to prosecute.

Makhura says this panel will be vital in ensuring a corruption free government.
