Open ballot for motion of no confidence against Mahumapelo

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Speaker of the North West Legislature Sussana Dantjie has announced that the motion of no confidence in Premier Supra Mahumapelo on April the 17th will proceed through an open ballot system.

The Legislature will hold a Special House Sitting to debate the motion which the EFF tabled in March.

The ANC in the North West has come out in defence of its provincial chairperson and premier following ANC Youth League president Collen Maine‘s remarks.

Maine publicly admitted that Mahumapelo was the one who introduced him to the Gupta brothers.

Maine made the admission during a memorial service for struggle icon Winnie Madikizela-Mandela in Potchefstroom on Tuesday.

“It is a known fact that comrade Supra at no stage had he ever denied knowing the Gupta family but comrade Collen if he is saying comrade Supra held him at gun point, to take money from the Guptas, is something else. He must do the right thing because this is by his own admission that indeed he received something from the Guptas. He must declare to the public how much did he receive and that house … if it is true what has been playing rounds in the media … he must take it back to the Guptas or donate it to the needy family. If indeed he is sorry of what he did because this is what he is saying,” she said.

Dantjie says the ANC leadership in the province is aware of a group of people including Maine, who are planning to tarnish Mahumapelo’s image.

“There is a group of some comrades that are continuously angry, bitter. They are always not happy. We are fully aware that that group has been meeting, planning anarchy, destabilisation of the ANC in the province because they hate comrade Supra so much. Now, these comrades, including comrade Collen, is clear that their plan is now at an implementation stage. That stage is just a smear campaign against the provincial chairperson,” she said.
