Mourners have gathered outside struggle stalwart Winnie Madikizela-Mandela‘s house in Soweto to pay tribute to a person who was affectionately called the Mother of the Nation after news of her death.
There is a solemn air outside the house in Orlando. The street is packed with people and vehicles and an ANC flag has been hoisted from a pole in the yard.
Former national intelligence boss Billy Masethla and EFF Chairperson Dali Mpofu have been spotted entering the home where the ANC stalwart spent her last years.
A few roads down Vilakazi Street, members of the public have gathered outside the house which has which is now the Mandela House museum to pay their respects.
Madikizela-Mandela had shared the house with her late former husband and president Nelson Mandela. Songs fill the air and the mood seems more jovial as mourners celebrate a life well lived. More people are expected to arrive as the evening progresses.
