Police Minister Fikile Mbalula has appealed to young white South Africans to join the police service.
Mbalula says the low number of white applicants and females in the police service is concerning. Almost 3 500 trainees graduated at various police colleges across the country on Friday. Mbalula was speaking at the main graduation parade at the SAPS College in Pretoria.
“I’m asking the white youth in South Africa to join the police service. Of this 3 499, we only have 12 white young people. I want them to come to the police and join the ranks of the police to protect and serve their country. I want them to understand policing, it is a good career and that South Africa is their home too,” says Mbalula.
