A 39 year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a Fort Hare University student in Alice in the Eastern Cape on Sunday.

The incident happened while she was walking with her boyfriend towards Stewart Memorial, popularly known as Somgxada.

It’s alleged the suspect came from nearby bushes and accosted the two, tying them up before raping her in front of her partner. They’re now receiving counselling.

Police spokesperson Khaya Tonjeni says: “Our detectives worked around the clock looking for clues and they were successful in apprehending a 39 old suspect. He is is expected to appear at Alice Magistrate Court facing a charge of rape.”
