Lekota visits families affected by KZN floods

Reading Time: < 1 minute

COPE leader Mosiuoa Lekota has visited families that have been left destitute by the recent floods that ravaged the eThekwini Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal.

Many families have been forced to take refuge at a local church hall in Westcliff in Chatsworth, south of Durban, as they are still awaiting assistance.

Lekota handed out food parcels and clothes.

He blamed the floods on rapid climate change.

He says: “We took a look here and one of the things that is clear is that when we budget in Parliament, we must support budgeting that will look at disasters of this nature, especially because we are now aware of  the severe climate change taking place.”

“We don’t know how it is going to affect communities as we move into the future, but this indicates that such problems will increase rather than diminish.”
