A number of Samwu and Imatu  members in Great Kei Municipality in the Eastern Cape have downed tools demanding the removal of senior municipal managers.

They have accused the municipality of maladministration, corruption and nepotism.

Last week, municipal offices and two refuse trucks were torched. The protesting workers are calling on the provincial government to take over the administration of the municipality .

Samwu’s shop-steward Luthando Juju and Imatu  member Xoliswa Makeleni say they have no confidence in the leadership of this municipality.

“We have closed all municipal offices here in Great Kei municipality workers are here up till ANC , government come and address us because we do not have confidence in the administration of this municipality to address our concerns,” said Juju.

“The employer does pay the provident fund on time and we are receiving sms informing us that they last paid provident fund in February I think that was the last payment Mr Juju is that so,” said Makeleni.

Great Kei municipality could not be reached for comment .
