Game on for the championship as Sundowns equal points with Pirates

Mamelodi Sundowns leveled points with Orlando Pirates at the top of the Absa Premiership log with a 2-1 win over Black Leopards in Thohoyandou on Tuesday night.

Gaston Sirino opened the scoring for Sundowns in the 27th minute capitalising on a horrendous error from Leopards captain Jean Munganga.

Tebogo Langerman grabbed the winner from a Thapelo Morena assist in the 68th minute while Leopards’ consolation came in injury time through Tumelo Khutlang. Sundowns are now tied on 53 points with Pirates all from 28 matches however the Buccaneers enjoy a better goal difference.

Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane admits he was not happy when they conceded.

With the championship now a two horse race Mosimane says Pirates still have an upper hand. “Jingles” as the Brazilians mentor is affectionately known adds that he has not been very proud of how his side’s programme went this year.

Meanwhile, Li doda Duvha remain in 14th place on the table with 26 points also from 28 outings. Coach Dylan Kerr was disappointed with the result even though he was pleased with the attitude and application of his charges.

The Vhembe based side are winless in six matches and they have managed a sole point and conceded 13 goals in those encounters. Kerr says most of those goals were from their own mistakes. – Report by Lethabo Kganyago
