The office of the Public Protector has confirmed receipt of a request to investigate corruption allegations against North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo.

This relates to among others, allegations that the provincial government gave former President Jacob Zuma cattle worth over R1.5 million and 600 merino sheep were reportedly delivered to Mahumapelo’s farm in Delareyville.

The investigation also covers allegations that agricultural training company in contract with the provincial agriculture department, Agridelight, provided funds to Mahumapelo to obtain the franchise of two MacDonalds in Mafikeng.

Spokesperson for Public Protector’s office Oupa Segalwe says the request was made by the Freedom Front Plus.

“We have accepted a complaint and then it has been subjected to a process of assessment to establish whether or not, the Public Protector has jurisdiction over those issues. And also to establish if there’s any merit to the claims contained in the complaint and going forward we will then make a decision how to proceed with that particular case. I must mention that at least one of the allegations here relating to cattle that were allegedly awarded to former president from the North West Province was also a subject of another complaint by the Economic Freedom Fighters.”
