EFF objects to Nombembe’s appointment in state capture

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) says it objects to the appointment of Former Auditor General Terence Nombembe as the Head of Investigations for the Commission of Inquiry into allegations of state capture.

It accuses Nombembe who is the CEO of the South African Chartered Accountants Institute (SAICA) of receiving a donation of R1.2 million from Trillian, one of the companies linked to state capture.

EFF leader Julius Malema was reacting on Wednesday’s announcement made by Commission Chairperson, Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo of key appointments to his Commission.

“By the time SAICA received the donation it was common cause and public knowledge that Trillian capital was used as a corruption vehicle by the Gupta criminal syndicate and had received more than R500 million from Eskom. When the EFF parliamentary caucus became aware of this donation to SAICA, we wrote a letter to Nombembe to ask him to confirm and explain donation from Trillian capital, instead of explaining the only thing Nombembe did was to respond with an email arranging for a telephone call conversation, perhaps in an attempt to try and bribe EFF parliamentary caucus.”
