The Democratic Alliance (DA) has won both contested wards in yesterday’s by-election in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro.

The DA, African National Congress (ANC), African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP), Patriotic Alliance (PA) and the new kid on the block, the Social Revolutionary Workers Party (SRWP), contested Ward 35 and Ward 37 in the northern Areas.

The DA received 83% in ward 35 followed by the ANC with 13.5%.

In ward 37, it got 55.4% followed by the ANC with 28.7%.

The wards became vacant after the DA terminated the membership of Trevor Louw and Neville Higgins who were councillors in the wards respectively.

This was after they turned against the DA and voted with the opposition in council.
