Zuma to use Zambia trip to engage Lungu on various issues

Reading Time: < 1 minute

President Jacob Zuma is in Zambia and could engage President Edgar Lungu on the state of emergency and the political situation in that country.

Tensions have risen in Zambia in recent months with the detention of opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema since April this year on treason charges for allegedly blocking Lungu’s motorcade.

Zuma is expected to open Zambia’s Agricultural and Commercial Show in Lusaka and hold discussions with Lungu.

South Africa’s High Commissioner to Zambia, Sikose Mji says, “Come the middle of this month we are assuming the Chairpersonship of SADC so as the Chair of SADC we may have to be more involved around discussions that are not just commercial but as well as those situations that are commercial. So I do suspect strongly that the two presidents behind closed doors will discuss this matter.”
