SADC’s Electoral Advisory Council to visit SA ahead of elections

Reading Time: < 1 minute

As South Africa gears up to have national and provincial elections between May and August 2024, regional bloc, Southern African Development Community (SADC)’s Electoral Advisory Council is set to visit the country on Tuesday.

This is part of a pre-election assessment of goodwill missions to member states that hold elections.

The SADC Electoral Advisory Council will be led by its chairperson, Judge Ticheme Dlamini and the officers from the SADC Secretariat.

The mission will assess the political and security environments, to ensure that elections are free, fair, transparent, credible and peaceful.

It’s routine for the SADC electoral advisory council and the SADC electoral observer mission to engage with key players ahead of the polls.

They also want to ensure that the SADC chair of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation is well-informed.
