The Western Cape Department of Health says it is exceeding its weekly target of COVID-19 vaccinations.

Their target, set at 200 000 vaccinations, was exceeded by nearly 90 000 this week.

So far, more than 1.9 million vaccinations have been administered in the province.

Department Spokesperson Maret Lesch says 20 vaccination sites are open across the province on Saturday.

“This is the first five-day week where we did not have limited vaccine supply and we had a great demand for vaccination. We urge people with a chronic medical condition to get vaccinated as soon as possible as they are at increased risk of contracting severe COVID-19 and then land up in hospital, ICU or even die from COVID-19 infection.”

In the tweet below, a list of all vaccination sites that are open in the Western Cape on Saturday:

Meanwhile, Western Cape health authorities say they are working with the Education Department to encourage matriculants who are 18 years and older to vaccinate.

The 18 to 34-year-old cohort has dominated uptake of vaccinations in the province since registrations opened last Friday.
