Volume of vehicles entering KZN increases drastically

Road Traffic Inspectorate spokesperson Zinhle Mngomezulu says more vehicles are making their way into the province to spend the Easter weekend on the coast.

Traffic authorities in KwaZulu-Natal say the volume of vehicles entering the province has increased drastically.

Road Traffic Inspectorate spokesperson Zinhle Mngomezulu says more vehicles are making their way into the province to spend the Easter weekend at the coast.

Mngomezulu says the vehicles passing at Marianhill Toll Plaza stands at more than 1000 per hour.

“We are experiencing a high volume of traffic, holiday makers are making their way to KwaZulu-Natal especially in Durban. Traffic counts around three in Marianhill toll plaza, north bound is 1832 in as much as we do have traffic count the high volume. There are no major accidents reported so far.”

Meanwhile, Transport Deputy Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga says her department is looking at reducing road fatalities on the country’s roads by 10% this Easter holidays.

Chikunga has been speaking during a road block on the N4 toll road at Hectorspruit near the Lebombo border post in Mpumalanga.

Stop and search were conducted to vehicles using the road which connect the province to Mozambique and Swaziland.

The operations include road safety awareness campaigns and rest stops.
