Community members have gathered in uMthwalume, on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast, to pray for the end to Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in the area. The bodies of at least five women have been found this year and police are investigating the possibility of a serial killer operating in the area.

Police Minister Bheki Cele is in the area to reinforce investigations.

Mourners, mainly women dressed in black, have gathered to wait for the Minister’s arrival.

Cele’s visit comes after cries for help from community members, who say they are living in fear.

On Friday, he announced that two people had been taken in for questioning regarding the murders.

In the video below, is an update on arrests made:

On Sunday, the Inkatha Freedom Party’s (IFP) president Velenkosini Hlabisa is expected in the area to have an open-air prayer session with the locals.
