Two men have been apprehended on charges related to drug possession and possession of ammunition in Kensington, near Cape Town.

According to police spokesperson Wesley Twigg, officers discovered drugs valued at approximately R20 000 and over 30 rounds of ammunition at two different locations.

Twigg stated, “The members found 31 rounds of ammunition and 428 mandrax tablets wrapped in a plastic bag. At the second address, the members found 210 mandrax tablets and 11 small packets containing crystal meth in a plastic bag.”

In a separate incident, a tragic occurrence unfolded in the NY3A informal settlement in Gugulethu on the Cape Flats, where a one-year-old baby boy and an eight-year-old girl lost their lives due to gunfire.

Twigg explained that the children were playing outside when unidentified individuals began shooting at each other, inadvertently involving the innocent children. The wounded children were rushed to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

“Gugulethu police are investigating two counts of murder following a shooting incident in NY3A on Monday afternoon. The suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested,” Twigg confirmed.
