Transnet launches strategy to quicken port operations

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Transnet National Ports Authority has launched a new strategy that looks to address the slow rate of transformation in the port operations sector.

The Island View Precinct Strategy wants to draw new members especially historically disadvantaged persons into the sector.

Operators in this petrochemical hub in the Port of Durban are involved in the movement and storage of South Africa’s petrol.

Chief executive of Transnet National Ports Authority, Shulami Qalinge says, “We need to be mindful and not forget the transformation particularly in port operations and I am sure you will agree with me that we are a bit behind when it comes to that. So this strategy seeks to address just that. It also talks to job preservation and job creation. We are all nervous about it. There are risks attached to it. It also has huge impacts not just for TNPA or Transnet, but the country at large.”
