South Africa’s Daniel van Tonder has won the Kenya Savannah Classic golf tournament at the Karen Country Club in Nairobi – his first win on the European Tour.
The 30-year-old beat Thailand’s Jazz Janewattananond with a birdie at the third play-off hole after both completed their four rounds on 263 – 21-under-par – after matching seven-under-par 64’s in the final round.
Van Tonder pocketed 145 500 Euros for the win, by far the biggest win of his career.
Countryman Justin Harding who won the Kenya Open at the same venue last Sunday started the final round with a three-stroke lead.
He struggled to a two-over-par 73 and had to settle for a tie for 14 – six strokes behind Van Tonder.
