South African golfer Brandon Stone has won the 2021 Limpopo Golf Championship after out-foxing Hennie Du Plessis, Oliver Bekker and Daniel Van Tonder in the four-way play-off.

The North West-born 28-year-old found his second birdie of the week at the 18th to clinch the playoff, and with that, his first win on the Challenge Tour.

Apart from facing stiff and stubborn opposition, the course also presented a tough challenge.

The thick and heavy greens remained an additional challenge throughout the day.

All four golfers headed to the play-off hole on eight-under-par. But Stone, who has three European Tour wins, outsmarted them, making birdie on the 18th hole to seal the victory.

Stone has described the tournament as one of the trickiest he has ever played in.

“The pitch was tricky because the grass was thick and firm making it very tricky but winning was great.”

After winning the Sunshine Tour European Tour co-sanctioned tournament, Stone aims to scale loftier heights.

“I came with the objective of making, get world ranking point as they will be more and more events to participate in.”

This year has seen over 70 international golfers taking part in the event. Report by Lutendo Bobodi
