The Democratic Alliance (DA) says the serious lack of special prosecutorial skills at the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) can no longer be denied.
This follows the Bloemfontein High Court’s discharge of the case against the five accused in the R24 million Nulane Investment fraud trial on Friday.
The case against two companies was also discharged.
A sixth person was acquitted.
The Nulane Investment matter was the first state capture case to be put on trial.
The DA’s Glynnis Breytenbach says, “Matters such as this take a lot of skills to prosecute, take a lot of experience to prosecute, and there can be absolutely no doubt that the NPA has a lack of sufficient such skills. A lot of people have left. A lot of people have retired, and those skills have not been replaced unfortunately. There’s very little training for prosecutors currently so there’s without any doubt a serious lack of forensically skilled prosecutors in the National Prosecuting Authority.”
