A South African greeting card company is looking for donations for its campaign to send cards to healthcare workers during the month of love.

Founder of Cardiology Cards, Benita Enoch, says they hope to deliver at least 20 000 handwritten cards and letters to many healthcare workers in February.

Enoch says she hopes the campaign will bolster the frontline workers.

“Simple acts of kindness and appreciation build the human spirit and that’s our mission. We know these letters and cards will serve as a tangible reminder to each healthcare worker, that they are deeply appreciated for standing on the frontline of our country’s well-being. Tragically, we are losing healthcare workers in this pandemic. So in a way, these keepsakes can become part of their legacy too.”

Minister Zweli Mkhize calls on health workers not to lose hope:

South African health workers are stretched as coronavirus (COVID-19) infections in the country continue to go high.

Last year, Dr Zweli Mkhize said the government is committed to making sure that health workers are protected.

“At this point, our number of both private and public is around 31 000 who are infected, and we have lost about 240 of those. We really do feel sad, we have lost some members or even the fact that some of them have been infected. We will continue to commit ourselves to ensure that all of them are protected as much as possible.”
