Residents of Lourierpark in Bloemfontein have shut down the area to protest against people who have illegally occupied land in the area.
The illegal occupants started erecting shacks on Saturday.
All entrances to the suburb have been blocked with burning tyres and no vehicles are allowed to drive in and out of the area.
The illegal occupants say the requests for allocation of sites to Mangaung Metro have fallen on deaf ears.
Police are monitoring the situation.
Earlier, police separated two groups of residents who were in conflict.
One group tried to block another from erecting structures next to their residences.
