President Ramaphosa to answer questions in National Assembly on Friday

Reading Time: 2 minutes

President Cyril Ramaphosa will pay his quarterly visit to the National Assembly this Friday to answer oral questions. Three of the six questions are from African National Congress members who have asked about the advancement of social cohesion and nation-building, the economic reconstruction plan, and policy interventions that will be implemented to ensure the turnaround of local government.

Ramaphosa will also face hard questions from opposition parties related to the appointment of Ministers, the Marikana killings, as well as the protection of people who do not want to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

Tidimalo Legwase of the ANC wants the president to answer about additional measures government will take, alongside Chapter 9 institutions and others supporting democracy, to advance social cohesion and nation-building.

This is in view of the recent social unrest that she says exposed underlying racial tensions in the country.

Ramaphosa has been criticised following his recent cabinet reshuffle.

President Ramaphosa reshuffled the Cabinet earlier this year:

The criticism has ranged from those who say he failed to let go of non-performing ministers to those who say he appointed people with questionable backgrounds.

Some feel that new Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana has questions to answer regarding his resignation in 2021 amid a scandal involving R100 million of pension money for clothing industry workers.

The president can expect, therefore, that Democratic Alliance (DA) leader John Steenhuisen will raise this and other questions as a follow-up to his questions related to the appointment of ministers.
