Police have confirmed that a political party has opened a case of intimidation and damage to property at the Pongola police station in northern KwaZulu-Natal. This follows this week’s by-election in a ward that the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) retained.
The provincial police spokesperson, Robert Netshiunda says, “Members of two rival political parties were preparing for by-elections at Ncotshane area when one person allegedly hailed intimidating words to the complainant and also damaged his property. No one has been arrested as yet.”
Post on the results of the by-election in Pongola:
This is exactly what the ANC feared;
Former President Jacob Zuma’s #MK party splitting the vote;
In ward 2, uPhongolo, KwaZulu-Natal in yesterday’s by-election, MK received 687 votes, ANC 817 votes & IFP 890 votes.
Combined, MK & ANC could’ve won with 1507 votes.#sabcnews pic.twitter.com/FF3dwtpwLJ
