Plead to parents to keep an eye on children during holidays

Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services are pleading with parents to keep a close eye on their children when around anybody of water this festive season.

This after at least three children, aged two and a half, 12 and 13 years, respectively, drowned on the East Rand of Johannesburg since the start of the school holidays.

EMS Spokesperson William Ntladi says dams, rivers and other areas where water collects are particularly appealing to children when the summer heat strikes.

“The children were at home playing next to the dam and that’s when the drowning happened.”
