Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi says plans are in place to ensure that all their offices are purpose-built.

He officially opened a new purpose-built branch of home affairs office at Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape over the weekend.

The new facility is part of the department’s modernisation programme, investing in purpose-built offices to meet the needs of citizens.

It is also one of the few home affairs offices that are owned by the state.

Motsoaledi says they are also building a few branches in other provinces.

“We want purpose-built home affairs offices and this is one of the first purpose built. As I’m speaking here, there’s one being completed in Mokopane in Limpopo, another one in Thohoyandou in Limpopo, then [another one is] in Taung in North West, and in KwaDukuza in KZN [KwaZulu-Natal]. The main reason is that they must be purpose-built. If you look here, everything was planned. But if you go to other offices, which are a majority unfortunately, some of them are next to taverns or next to a very busy taxi rank and all that.”
