The KZN Tender Tribunal orders the KZN Department of Education to restart tender process after corruption allegations.

The KwaZulu-Natal Tender Tribunal has ordered the provincial Education Department to restart the tender process for the schools nutritional programme after allegations of corruption.

The legal battle over feeding schemes intensified in July when service providers took the department to court after their contracts expired and the department hired new suppliers.

The High Court in Pietermaritzburg ruled that the new tender processes were invalid.

However, the department appealed and the court overturned the decision.

Provincial department spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi says they will meet on Monday to discuss the decision.

“As the Department of Education in KwaZulu-Natal we note the ruling around the school nutrition programme for our schools in the province. This comes at a time when we have scheduled a top management meeting on Monday, we will then discuss as to what are the implications and what are the actions moving forward that we are going to be persuading as a department,” says Mahlambi.
