The parents of two children who have gone missing at Mtwalume on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast are calling on the community to help them find their children.
Two eight-year-old children, Snethemba Ngcece and Lwenkosi Khawula, went missing in separate incidents.
Ngcece went missing a week ago, while Khawula disappeared a month ago.
Ngcece’s father, Sbusiso Sbiya, says for the past few days they have not been able to eat or sleep.
“We humbly ask the community to assist us in finding Snethemba Ngcece and Lwenkosi Khawula or to contact the police if they see them somewhere. It has become unsafe for our children when they have to go to school as we now have been forced to accompany them.”
In November last year statistics from the Civil society organisation, Missing Children South Africa, indicated that at least 77% of missing children are found.
Missing Children SA’s National Co-ordinator, Bianca van Aswegen, said South Africa is a hub for human trafficking syndicates.
Van Aswegen said, “Kidnappings have increased dramatically over the last few months and it’s of great concern, especially where children are involved and we deal with different types of kidnappings. We have got opportunistic kidnappings, ransom kidnappings, kidnappings for traditional medicine purposes and human trafficking.”
