Reading Time: < 1 minute

Nine illegal immigrants have been arrested by KwaZulu-Natal police at the Durban Point area during an early morning raid.

The aim was to find criminal elements and curb illegal activities in the city of Durban.

The Tactical Response Team, K9 Unit, Customs and SAPS were among the units that took part in the raid.

A packet of drugs was also found.

Six of the arrested people did not have papers allowing them to be in the country.

Provincial MEC for Safety and Security Mxolisi Kaunda says this is not the end of the programme.

“We have conducted searches in night clubs, there is only one night club that was found to not be adhering to the license conditions and therefore it was closed down. About nine illegal immigrants were found during this operation, six of them did not possess papers that allow them to be in the country and three of them have been found to be wanted as they have criminal records on their names and they have been taken to the cells. There are drugs which have been found but unfortunately, they threw them out the windows,” says Kaunda.
