Miss South Africa takes Miss Universe crown

Miss South Africa Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters was crowned Miss Universe Pageant on Sunday at the pageant held in Las Vegas becoming the second South African to take the crown.

Miss Colombia and Miss Jamaica also made it to the final three.

Nearly 100 women from across the globe competed in the spectacle. Miss Universe is one of the most publicised beauty pageants in the world.

Former Miss South Africa Margaret Gardiner last took the crown in 1978 and SA did not compete in the pageant between 1985 and 1994.

Nel-Peters takes the crown from previous winner Miss France Iris Mittenaere.
