Free State government has urged residents in Bloemfontein to take part in a mass prayer and candlelight vigil Tuesday night in their yards in remembrance of all those who have died of COVID-19. The main event will be held at the Mandela statue in the city.

To comply with regulations of mass gatherings, only the Premier, MECs and a pastor will congregate at Naval Hill  and social distancing will be observed. The request is also to pray for healthcare workers involved in tracing and screening programmes in communities.

People can light a candle and also do a short prayer at their homes at half past six tonight.

Free State currently has 111 coronavirus cases. There are five deaths in the province and 76 people have recovered.

South Africa has 4793 coronavirus cases and 90 deaths.
