Gauteng Transport MEC Jacob Mamabolo says he remains hopeful that national government will make an announcement on developments around the e-tolls in the province.  He says Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula has made a commitment to make an announcement on the gantries.

He also says Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana is expected to touch on the matter in the Medium Term Budget Policy Statement next month. Mamabolo says there is consensus things must change.

“That is why we remain optimistic. COSATU had a march I was in a privileged position mandated by the Premier to receive the march. They raised issue in the memorandum to the President so to that extent we remain optimistic that we have noted a compelling case as a province. The loud and clear voice of the people of Gauteng united across. We are very confident that the e-tolls will be scrapped,” Mamabolo says.
