The Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) has assured motorists that the M1 South bridge at Booysens off-ramp is safe to use.
The bridge embankment has partially collapsed after the recent heavy rains. No fatalities or injuries were reported.
General Manager for the JRA, Siyabonga Nodu, says there was no structural damage to the bridge.
“From a structural point of view I can assure you, we did not find that there is any structural damage or defect on the bridge structure. I can assure you, the bridge structure both from the bridge deck, the pillars that hold the bridge in place, everything in that respect, from the bridge structure point of view, is hundred percent,” says Nodu.
