Land grabs on the increase: AfriBusiness

AfriBusiness says there has been a growing number of land grabs in the country after Parliament’s recent adoption of a motion to change the constitution to allow for the expropriation of land without compensation.

This was revealed during an information session by the group.

Law and Policy analyst at AfriBusiness, Armand Greyling says the group aims to inform private property owners about their rights.

He says: “We have seen that land grabs are happening all across South Africa, more so than in the past. We feel it is important for people to know their rights to stop the illegal occupation of their property and what they can do should it happen.”

“AfriBusiness has already done six cases of people trying to occupy land illegally and we have assisted some members to obtain court interdicts to have these people removed.”
