The Justice and Correctional Services Department has welcomed its R628 million budget allocation announced by Finance Minister, Enoch Godongwana, during his Budget Speech in Cape Town yesterday.

The budget is for the implementation of Financial Action Task Force and State Capture Commission recommendations.

Justice and Correctional Services Spokesperson, Chrispin Phiri says the money will assist the criminal justice system, particularly the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

Phiri says, “The fight against corruption and capacitating the criminal justice system particularly at the level of NPA requires a significant amount of resources and this will go a long way in augmenting those resources.”

“Particularly this type of allocation is designed to enhance money laundering capacity cause you would know that such a finding particularly goes to our capacity to deal with money laundering crimes and financial crimes,” adds Phiri.
