IEC to be commended for election planning efforts so far

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The IEC will pull off the most complicated elections processes in the history of South Africa if the commission continues to deliver systems and processes at the current levels. That’s according to SABC elections analyst Terry Tselane, who says that no other Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in history has had to overcome so many challenges in the past. He says the court cases, delays, changing candidates lists, new technologies and putting in place protocols to deal with Covid-19 have been just some of the issues the Commission has had to overcome. Tselane says the commission has successfully navigated many hurdles to get systems and processes, as well as new technologies and social distancing protocols in place in the more than 23 000 voting districts across South Africa.
