Hilton Durban Hotel to close temporarily

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Hilton Durban Hotel will officially close its doors temporarily on Monday. The iconic hotel brand and building that became an integral part of Durban’s skyline has suffered a tremendous setback due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and the subsequent lockdown.

This comes as the tourism sector throughout the country has been under much strain since the start of the pandemic.

The Hilton group decided to close down more than 1 000 of its hotels around the world due to a reported steep decline in revenue brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.

Senior Journalist for Moneyweb Suren Naidoo says, “Hilton DBN is the latest hotel to be affected by the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions in South Africa. However, on the hotel’s website, there isn’t a booking available from today. It is unclear when the hotel will re-open, but considering its location, it’s most likely going to be a temporary closure being a business hotel close to the International Convention Convention.”
