Hamas cannot be treated as a legitimate party: Tzipi Livni

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Former Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Tzipi Livni says Hamas cannot be treated as a legitimate party that represent Palestinians. She however believes peace talks are their only solution.

Livni was involved in the peace talks in that country while she was in government.

Speaking to the SABC, Livni has appealed to the United Nations to take a lead in finding a lasting solution in the Middle East question.

“I think there is a need for creative minds to think together and to find the solution to this otherwise will have rounds again or Israel stuck there we doubt any possibility to give the key to more pragmatic regime.”

Meanwhile, EFF leader Julius Malema says the blame cannot be placed on Hamas for the deadly attack it launched on Israel earlier this month. Malema says Hamas’ defence of the Palestinian people and the fight for freedom is the only option in light of Israel’s continued occupation of Palestine.

Addressing thousands of party members outside the Israeli Embassy in Pretoria, Malema called for the boycott of all products from Israel and for Israeli embassies to be shut down in all African states.

“I am not going to condemn Hamas for any reason. You don’t invite things on yourself and want to go around seeking sympathy with artificial tears. I am not going to sit here comfortably and condemn Hamas to what they have done. What options do they have?”
