A 63-year-old man from Kwambonambi, in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the rape of his 15-year-old granddaughter.
The man who is the girl’s maternal grandfather was sentenced to life in the Empangeni Regional Court.
The court heard that he had raped her four times between 2018 and 2020.
The National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) Natasha Ramkisson-Kara says,” On the last occasion, he had just raped the girl and was straightening his clothes when a family member (the girl’s cousin) walked in on them. The cousin immediately reported this to the girl’s mother. The girl was questioned and she then told her mother that her grandfather had raped her before as well. The National Prosecuting Authority welcomes the successful prosecution.’
