Four suspected cash-in-transit robbers have been shot dead during a shootout with police in Estcourt in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands.

Two officers of the Road Traffic Inspectorate were injured during the shootout.

Police Spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says robbers in three vehicles forced the cash-in-transit vehicle to stop and then robbed them of cash and firearms yesterday.

Netshiunda says, “Two AK47 assault rifles, an R5 rifle, a pellet gun and an undisclosed amount of money suspected to have been stolen from the cash-in-transit vehicle were found in the possession of the suspects.”

“One of the suspects’ vehicles was found to have been reportedly hijacked in Germiston in Gauteng earlier this month. Police are still in pursuit of more suspects,” he adds.
