Former South African Proteas player and coach Mike Procter is still in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in a Durban hospital.

The 77-year-old all-rounder led the South African team on its first international tour to India in 1991.

The tour followed South Africa’s re-admission to international cricket.

In a statement, his family says Procter experienced a complication during routine surgery last week and while recovering in ICU, he suffered a cardiac attack.

Following an international career that was cut short in 1970 when South Africa was excluded from world cricket because of the then apartheid government, Procter assumed the role of coach, leading the team to the semifinals of the 1992 Cricket World Cup.
