The South African men’s cricket team has given a much better account of itself on day one of the second Test against New Zealand in Hamilton compared to the disastrous first Test in Mount Maunganui.

The Proteas, who won the toss, reached stumps on day one on 220 for the loss of six wickets.

All-rounder Ruan de Swardt is unbeaten on 55 scored off 135 deliveries, while Shaun von Berg will resume on day two on 34.

Rachin Ravindra was by far the best of the Black Caps bowlers.

He took three for 33 in 21 overs.

Last week, New Zealand beat South Africa by 281 runs on the fourth day of the first cricket Test.
