The eThekwini Municipality says it will take action against its employees who are involved in what the municipality has described as an illegal and unprotected strike.

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Nomsa Dube-Ncube and eThekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda briefed the media in Durban.

Striking municipal workers are demanding the same wages as employees at the other metros.

Condemning the strike action, Dube-Ncube says a technical team has been established to identify employees who have destroyed municipal property.

She says, “The team has been set up to analyse all the video footage of the destruction of property including the abuse of state vehicles that were seen and that were in the hands of municipal officials who participated in the illegal strike.”

“That process is well underway, and the culprits are being identified as we speak through internal processes and they will be arrested soon. The Department of Cooperative and Traditional Affairs has also provided a four persons team to fast-track the disciplinary hearings of those that are now being charged,” adds Dube-Ncube.
